This area was once just grass, then I attempted a kitchen garden and the vegetables simply didn't thrive. The lavender and strawberries kind of took over. At a point of no return I pulled everything out that I could and mowed the rest. Thus, it's now clover, weeds and strawberry foliage rather than grass. My plan is to create a new garden here next spring, with a curved edge and cottage garden feel. To create the height and backdrop for that garden, I planted two shrubs from the Plant Swap here to join the peony bush:
Lilac - The lineage of this rooting is from the yard of my brother-in-law's mother, and it's really nice to have a family heirloom plant like this.
Spirea - Has delicate pink flowers; blooms on and off throughout the summer.
